recent activity
Hi all,

I do have plans for some updates to this website but am just so busy right now with other things, website changes will come a little later.

It's nice to see some new entries in the Then and Now Profiles and on the Guestbook page.

Thanks goes to Dawn Williams for her work on communication to the class of 80, about every 6 months Dawn will send out something. This helps us to keep our addressbook entries up to date and of course the more people we have contact with the better chance of finding others.

In case you haven't seen it, here's the most recent message sent out...

Cabrillo Sr. High School Class of 1980 30-Year Reunion:
July 24-25, 2010

Hello CHS 1980 Classmates,

Three decades have flashed before our eyes, and we're now gearing up to rekindle many cherished memories and renew friendships as we gather once again in Lompoc, California over the weekend of July 24 - 25, 2010 for our 30-Year Reunion!

It's hard to believe, as it feels just like yesterday we were experiencing...

The magic of our Homecoming and Prom school dances!

- The excitement that surrounded our campus during junior year as our varsity basketball team stormed their way through the CIF playoffs, and brought back from Long Beach the CIF Championship title!

- The intense rivalry of the Cabrillo (yea!) vs. Lompoc (boo!) football game!

- The range of emotions which swept through us as we donned our cap & gowns and proudly accepted our high school diplomas on graduation day, June 13, 1980!

Tentative not-to-be-missed 30Y Reunion activities to include...

Saturday, July 24, 2010:  A fun evening of dinner, dancing and more will take place at the Elks Lodge in Lompoc .

Sunday, July 25, 2010:  An afternoon of sunshine and barbecued good eats is planned for classmates and families at River Park in Lompoc!

Over the next six months the planning committee anticipates posting additional event details on our CHS Class of '80 Reunion website... your resource for current reunion information (agenda, ticket purchases, confirmed attendees, hotel info., etc.), posting classmate messages, etc.!   http://chs80reunion.myevent.com/

Where we need your assistance.

- The below list of names reflects the classmates we have email addresses for. While we've obtained an impressive amount so far, we need your help to ensure our reunion plans get communicated to as many classmates as possible. If you have contact with classmates who are not on this list, it would be appreciated if you would forward this message on to them.

- A very special slideshow is being created for our reunion and we'd love to include in it any personal pics you have from our high school years or previous class reunions. So fire up that scanner and email me your photos (.jpeg, .gif or .bmp format) at sokol_kiev@msn.com.

- We're looking for classmates to participate in the reunion planning, on-site decorating & setup for the July 24 dinner and July 25 barbecue, and organizing other potential extracurricular weekend activities. 30Y Reunion Committee members currently include our Reunion Coordinator Janis [Baldassano] Bowers, along with Joni [Gamboa] Maiden, David Heinz, Paula Daly and Dawn Williams.

Though many of us have moved from Lompoc , we share a common bond of being classmates throughout those four years at Cabrillo Senior High School . Thirty years later, it certainly is time we are all once again reunited for a weekend of celebration! On behalf of the planning committee, we look forward to seeing you at the reunion in Lompoc on July 24 - 25, 2010!

In the meantime, if you have any questions, would like to join the planning committee or be added to our email distribution, please feel free to contact Janis (jmbowers@ix.netcom.com) and myself (sokol_kiev@msn.com).

Regards,

Dawn Williams

CHS Athletics Booster Club Meeting March 31st
(I am forwarding this information from the CHS Athletics Booster
Club, I am not a contact person for the Boosters. See below for
Booster Contacts. ~Janis Bowers)

CHS Athletics Booster Club Meeting is scheduled for Monday March 31st
in the CHS Library at 7pm.

To All Booster Club Members (And interested parties):

Please plan on attending this month's Booster Club Meeting on Monday,
March 31st at 7 pm in the Cabrillo Library.

We will need to hold our Annual Booster Club Board Elections. If you
are interested in serving and working on this Board, please plan on
attending and let us know, so we can include your name on the roster
of the vote.
(Those interested in supporting the Booster Club but are not
local/available to volunteer, can assist by purchasing a Booster
Membership.)

The Booster Club is in process of organizing a Golf Tournament
Fundraiser and needs more volunteers:

The date for the Golf Tournament Fundraiser is Friday, June 20, 2008
at the Vandenberg Village Country Club
(Note: Flower Festival starts Wed. June 25th thru Sunday June 29th).

Since LUSD is trimming the budget for FY 2008-09, and have already
mentioned athletics as a possible area of cuts, we need to maximize
our opportunities to raise money for the sports programs. We are in
the unique position of having our 501C3, so we can remain in control
of funding if we raise money on behalf of our athletic programs.

CHS Athletic Booster Club seeks your assistance
I was originally contacted about a year ago by Dee Nelson of the CHS PTSA regarding efforts to start up (or reactivate) an Athletics Booster Club at Cabrillo High School with the goal of raising funds to help build a new stadium, new pool and lockerrooms/showers/restrooms and aid all the sport teams.  Dee recently informed me that the Booster Club is "in business" and they were in need of assistance to get the word out.

Then I found this posting on the "CHS the First Six Classes" website (http://www.cabrillo67-72.com/) from Mr Webster with more details about the Athletics Booster Club.
Want to continue to help the ol' Alma Mater? Join the Booster Club! Here's the latest:
Dear Alumni,
Here are some things I want to share with you from the updated By-laws of Cabrillo High School Athletics Booster Club in the hopes that you will want to join in thee efforts to improve the environment in which our student-athletes compete!

C. Yearly Membership: $15.00 – Conquistador Membership; ($7 – Student Conquistador); $25 – Fighting Conquistador; $100 – Bronze Conquistador; $200 – Silver Conquistador; $500 – Golden Conquistador; $1,000 – Platinum Conquistador Membership.
D. The membership year shall run from September 1 through August 31st.

We are a Non-Profit Organization and all checks should be made out to "Cabrillo High School Athletics Booster Club." Address all correspondence to the high school at: 4350 Constellation Road, Lompoc, CA 93436. The Tax Id #: 26-0399969.
Some of you may ask "What is in it for me?" That is a question that is asked when alumni are asked to contribute to scholarship funds, donate money to endow a chair in a particular department, raise money for construction projects, etc., at the university/college from which they graduated! My initial response is that the help you give to students, attracting more desirable faculty, aiding in a building program, etc., should be satisfaction enough. With that in mind, I would like to encourage you to contribute to the Cabrillo High School Athletics Booster Club to the fullest of your ability so that the Cabrillo spirit of excellence will continue to draw praise and recognition from around the State of California and beyond. Remember you are/were a part of that spirit of excellence during your years at Cabrillo!!!

In memory of
Katherine (Kathy) Melatti-Hawkins  passed away August 2007.  Kathy was a 1983 graduate of Cabrillo.  A memorial page was set up for Kathy by her friend Jane Collette on the Legacy.com website.

You can visit the Notice for Katherine (Kathy) Melatti-Hawkins at this address  http://www.legacy.com/Link.asp?I=LS000092721772X

You can follow the guestbook link in the upper right hand portion of the page to read what others have posted and post your own comments.  Jane has sponsored the memorial page for a year and plans to have it printed and bound as a gift for the Melatti family.

NEW Blog page
Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I did any updating on the reunion site and as I logged in today I discovered more new premium features available.  So today I am starting up this Blog section and for now will use it to post announcements.

You will be able to comment on these blog entries, although at least for now all comments will be reviewed/approved for display so don't expect your comments to show immediately.  (This allows me to keep any spam type entries off the page.)
